Police Pull Gun on Male for Picking Up Trash in His Own Yard

“You’re on my property with a gun in your hand, threatening to shoot me because I’m picking up trash,” Zayd Atkinson said to officer John Smyly. Despite nobody calling Smyly to the scene, Smyly confronted Atkinson on the grounds that Smyly saw a "no trespassing" sign and thought Atkinson, who is Black, looked suspicious despite Atkinson being on his own property doing a service for his school's dorm. Smyly resigned and will be paid into 2020 by Boulder Police Department (which refused to fire him) after he leaves
