Valencia Beachfront Deserted After Easter Storms

Footage shows the normally bustling beachfront in Valencia, Spain, covered in sand after unusual weather brought strong storms to the region. The Playa de la Patacona is normally packed with sunbathers hitting the beach on the long Easter weekend. But the scenes on April 22 showed how the area was deserted after strong winds and heavy rain blighted the area. Sand had been blown onto the concrete promenade making it difficult to walk down. Hotel owners also revealed that bookings had been slashed as holidaymakers stayed away from the area because of the rain. Manuel Espinar, President of the Business Hotel Federation of València, said: ‘’Many people cancelled their reservations at the last minute after being warned about the bad weather. It has been catastrophic for businesses. But despite the negative impact on the economic environment, this storm could help improve the levels of water reserves in the region.’’
