Easiest Method to Grate Coconut at Home || How to shred Coconut in Mixie || 2 Methods to Grate Coconut at home & Storage tips
(Here we share 2 Easiest Methods for our viewers to grate coconut without using a Chirava, the traditional Coconut Scraper. Most of the South Indians / Srilakans are using coconut for their routine menu. These 2 easy methods would be of real help for the working women or bachelors to get the coconut shredded for their daily needs)
Method 1
Keep the de-shelled coconut in the freezer for a minimum of 12 hours or overnight. Remove the coconut from the freezer and immerse in water for 10 minutes. Cut the coconut in 2 halves and insert a sharp knife through the sides in between the hard shell and the flesh. The flesh will be easily removed from the shell then. Make sure the flesh is pat dried using a cloth or tissue paper to remove the excess water on it. You may remove the outer brown skin using a peeler or can be kept as it is. If you remove the outer brown skin, you can get the pure white colored scrapings. Cut the flesh into pieces and crush in the dry mixer jar on pulse 3-4 times. Don’t over pulse.
Method 2
This method can be used for grating on instant needs. Hold the half pc coconut using a hot vessel holder and show the shell on the flame for a minute to make it hot as shown in the video. Remove from the flame and once the shell is cold enough to hold in hand, using a sharp knife as in method 1, remove the flesh from the shell. Shred the flesh in the mixer jar, same like the method 1.
Storage
Keep the grated coconut in small containers with lids and store in the freezer. Keep each container for daily use, outside the freezer, half an hour before usage or can microwave to defrost. This way you can store the grated coconut in the freezer for a minimum of 2 weeks or more for your daily use.
