Ideal Characteristics of Tablet || Industrial Pharmacy || Tablets Hello there everyone, this video is good enough to provide you the knowledge regarding the ideal characteristics of tablets. This topic falls under the subject names as industrial pharmacy I. So the contents that are present in the video are listed as:
Link for a tablet:
Link for classification of tablets:
Tablet: The tablets are solid unit dosage form which may contain one or more medicament along with other excipients, the tablet may either be compressed or it may be moulded into a cylindrical shape that may have either a flat or convex surfaces.
Note: Excipient: an excipient may be defined as nontoxic, pharmacologically inactive substance which are mixed with the active pharmaceutical ingredients, so as to give them a face of the dosage form.
The commonly used excipients are listed below:
Anti-adherents
Sweeteners
Binders and adhesives
Colours
Fillers
Disintegrants
Diluents
Lubricants

The ideal characteristics of a tablet or we can say an ideal tablet has following properties that are listed below:
An ideal tablet is mostly elegant in appearance and has its own identity.
An ideal tablet is free from defects such as cracks, chips, contamination, discolorations, etc.
An ideal tablet is physically and chemically stable.
4. An ideal tablet releases the medicament(s) in the body in a predictable and reproductive manner.
5. An ideal tablet has an appropriate size and shape that makes its administration easy.
6. An ideal tablet is neither too hard nor too soft, as if it would be hard, it would not disintegrate within prescribed time and hence will not show its effect and if its too soft then it may easily break during its production, packaging, shipping and dispensing which may affect the dose of the drug.
7. An ideal tablet haves a uniform color distribution (if colorants used).

Procedure: The active ingredient and excipients are weighed and mixed.
The wet granulate is prepared by adding the liquid binder–adhesive to the powder blend and mixing thoroughly. Examples of binders/adhesives include aqueous preparations of cornstarch, natural gums such as acacia, cellulose derivatives such as methyl cellulose, gelatin, and povidone.
Screening the damp mass through a mesh to form pellets or granules.
Drying the granulation. A conventional tray-dryer or fluid-bed dryer are most commonly used.
After the granules are dried, they are passed through a screen of smaller size than the one used for the wet mass to create granules of uniform size.
Low shear wet granulation processes use very simple mixing equipment, and can take a considerable time to achieve a uniformly mixed state. High shear wet granulation processes use equipment that mixes the powder and liquid at a very fast rate, and thus speeds up the manufacturing process. Fluid bed granulation is a multiple-step wet granulation process performed in the same vessel to pre-heat, granulate, and dry the powders. It is used because it allows close control of the granulation process.
Dry granulation: Dry granulation processes create granules by light compaction of the powder blend under low pressures.
