Dennis Chew's 'brownface' ad | Bite-Size News with Sam Jo | The Straits Times

An advertisement with Chinese actor and DJ Dennis Chew portraying characters such as a woman in a tudung and a man with visibly darker skin has come under fire for being racially insensitive.

ST correspondent Yeo Sam Jo points out that this is not the first time Mediacorp has messed up depictions of race - think actor Shane Pow doing blackface in the Toggle series I Want To Be A Star (小咖大作战) and veteran actress Lin Meijiao donning a tudung for Channel 8 drama Say Cheese (西瓜甜不甜).
