What is a calorie & how is it calculated?
A calorie is a unit that is used to measure energy. The calorie you see on a food package is actually a kilocalorie or 1,000 calories. A calorie (kcal) is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water 1 degree Celsius.
Why counting calories doesn't work.
The calorie fallacy. When you eat your body doesn't burn anything so to say that something that works in physics or works for machines works for humans is highly illogical. When you eat anything your body has biochemical pathways it's gonna take the carbohydrates the proteins the and it's going to break it down the way that it should.
Calories In Calories Out Debunked
How many calories are in a poop? how many calories are in urine? how many calories are in sweat? How many calories are in breathing? You can't tell because calories don't exist and it doesn't make sense for calories in and calories out if you're dumping all of it constantly.
Legally the packaging the calorie count for whatever you're eating can be off by 20%. The machines that you use to tell how many calories you have going out are said to be 50% off. This makes sense because if I weigh a certain weight and I'm all muscle and somebody else weighs a certain weight they're all you know not muscle then obviously there's going to be a difference in the amount of energy we expend. Counting calories is a waste of time.
Why are calories still around?
The number one reason is that it works for food manufacturers. I call this the calorie deception. The packaging has the calorie number prominently displayed. Then you see grams for sugar, carbs, protein. The problem with this is that they'll say for example 5 grams of sugar but it has no percentage. The food manufacturers actually got that taken off because if you're just looking at the calorie number you're not looking at how many sugars. The sugar is the issue, not the calories so basically, they just dumbed it down.
There is a reason that 75% of manufactured food has added sugar. Sugar kills the signal (the hormone leptin) that fat cells send to your brain when you eat something. This signal is the hormone leptin that tells your brain when you have eaten enough. Sugar kills that so you just keep eating and the food manufacturers make more money.
