Packing the corn silage pile at Stone Ridge Dairy Farm in Central Illinois. Green Earth Ag Service LLC conducted the harvest and packing. For packing they used four John Deere tractors that included the model 9620 R and 9460 R. Chopping started on August 23, 2019 and they finished 980 acres in 6 days for a total of 24,261 tons (average of 4,043.5 tons/day) or 356/tons per hour over 68 hours with the last day averaging 602 tons/hour. Overall it took 917 loads averaging 26.5 tons each to bring in this years harvest. Packing the pile is important to minimize oxygen infiltration which reduces waste and increase feed quality due to better fermentation.
