Woman wants 'colored' dropped from NAACP's name | SWNS TV A woman has launched a campaign calling for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to drop the word ‘colored’ from its name.

Delia Gray, 45, is on a “one-woman crusade” to persuade the prominent civil rights organization to ditch the “demeaning” term.

Home health attendant Delia said: “As a black American, I detest being referred to as a ‘colored person.'

“The phrase is demeaning, demoralizing, and just plain disrespectful."

When the NAACP was founded in 1909, the word ‘colored’ was commonly used to refer to black people.

This video was filmed August 2019.
