Your 5-Way Stratocaster Switch May Be Causing Static in Your Amp

Your 5-Way Stratocaster Switch May Be Causing Static in Your Amp This is just a public service announcement on a possible cause of static that you may have heard coming from your amp but could not figure out what was causing it. Luckily I had had this problem before years ago on my vintage 3-way switch when I would force it into positions 2 and 4. It would eventually move a little and cause the exact same static I was hearing out of my 5-way switch. I didn't think it could happen with a 5-way switch but the contacts are exactly the same, they just put another two detents in the switch to keep it in positions 2 & 4.

Here is a high quality "Made in the USA" switch if you are looking for a replacement switch:
It is the same brand of switch they were putting in the original Fenders back in the day.

If you are interested in the Rumpelstiltskin Gypsys, mine are reverse stagger, non-RPRW
