How To Guarantee A Pay Raise!

How To Guarantee A Pay Raise! A raise is probably the easiest thing you can do to get more money in your life, a 5-minute conversation with your boss and your salary can increase 1-10% every single year. Now I'm aware that a lot of people have stigmas or are scared to ask for a raise, mostly because there's that fear of rejection from someone who has power over you. But no need to fear in this video I'm going to be breaking down exactly the best way to ask for that raise, and how to get over that fear of being rejected. So if you guys are interested go ahead and tap that like button and let's hop into it.

The first one is that you have to do is know your value. It's very important to show your employer that you're worth more than they think you are. Create a list and write downtimes when you got that project done a week ahead of time, how you increased profits for the company, worked overtime for the companies sake, decreased costs for the company, etc. Things that show you are a solid worker.

Additionally, write down if you're worth anything extra besides the skills of your job requires. So that could be that you plan out all the corporate events, you have some big clients that are loyal to you more than the company, you manage and check up on other employees under you, you have additional training and education, etc. This could even be that every year you consistency do better than the year before.

Once you've got your list together, do research on what people with the same job as you are getting paid. Look at how much your coworkers make compared to you, how much people at other companies with the same position as you make and, how much your job pays on average in the area that you are in. That way, you see where you stand compared to people with the same skillset as you. Now, as a note here to make sure you're looking at what your region is paying because salaries do vary a lot and use multiple sources, you'll have better numbers to work with.

Now you need to come up with a number to give your employer. This needs to be reasonable for your employer to say yes, but don't lowball it out of fear of being rejected. So, for example, let's say you're increasing profits for the company and get work done ahead of time, but your getting paid way less than the average is for your job, then ask for a number somewhat above what the average is.

On the other hand, if you're already at the top of what your job is paying or even if you don't do anything special at work but just have been consistently performing well, don't be shy to ask for a raise as well as long as its reasonable. Please do not give your employer a range your willing to accept. This is a terrible idea for three reasons, it makes you seem less confident, it can give you much lower of a raise than what you wanted and, it just makes you look like your not sure about what you want.

Now how do you get over the fear of asking for a raise, and you just have to remember you'll never get anywhere in life without taking risks. It doesn’t mean we’ll succeed every time. But each time we push past our fear, we remove internal barriers, we didn’t even know existed. And that's something I really try to mention on this channel. If you want that raise, be confident and go get it.

So it's now time to sit down with your boss. It's essential to time this correctly. It's really just when you think your boss is going to be in a good mood. The best time to do this is typically on a Friday afternoon, most everyone loves Fridays, and in the morning people can be a little grumpy and at the end of the day, your boss probably just wants to go home. Now, this is not a battle you want to be humble, polite, confident, and rehearse what you're going to say ahead of time.

Knock on your boss's door and ask if you can talk for a second, let them know you're here for a raise and talk about and show them the list you came up. I don't recommend showing them the average of what the market is paying for the job unless they tell you that your getting paid a lot already then mention how that's not entirely true. But most importantly, firmly yet politely tell them the number you came up with. Remember to relax. This is just a conversation, and your boss is going to ask you a couple of questions and you'll respond back.

Best case your boss says yes and its time to celebrate but if your boss says no, don't worry. I know it can feel heartbreaking, but look on the bright side you've shown off your investments in the company and told your boss everything you do that makes you a solid worker. And your boss is going to remember all of that the next time there's a promotion available in the office.

Thank you for watching!
