Role of the complement system in Inflammation

Role of the complement system in Inflammation Key Concepts:
a) Complement system, specially trough C5a, participate during the process of inflammation.
b) C5a is a chemoattractant molecule: Recruit cells to the site of the infection. Activates macrophages.
c) Complement participates in sepsis
d) Some complement proteins (e.g. MBL) are considered acute phase proteins. IL-6 plays a fundamental role in increasing acute phase protein production.
