Many at times patients think Palliative Care is a care for the dying. The Palliative Care is actually is an umbrella which covers symptoms, that is when a person could be suffering from pain or could be having loose motion or cod be having vomiting, nausea. So when all these symptoms are covered under an umbrella it is Palliative Care which starts for the time of diagnosis is of illness and continues as long as the treatment is given and even if treatment fails or if patient is dying or continues even after the death of the patient. So that is Palliative Care. It is not just the end of life care.
So Palliative Care is not just offered to people who have cancer but it can be offered to people who are suffering from illness which does not have a cure or treatment which cures them. So it can be heart failure condition, kidney failure or anything which has a long term illness or which is continuous, which continues and does not necessarily cure.
