In a national address that was intended to begin at 11 AM Eastern, Donald Trump appeared roughly 30 minutes late to the podium, and as many expected, filled his time with self-congratulatory lies, mischaracterizations of events that the world has watched in real time, and wrapped it up in less than ten minutes. Trump took no questions before he left.
Likely, that’s because he said so many ridiculous things during his brief address that he might have had to respond to questions about the things he’d just said, which were largely indefensible. Not only that, but journalists may have attempted to ask about what led up to the decision to strike Qassem Soleimani — a storyline that Trump and his team have not quite settled on.
