Whirlpool adds three new models to recall list of machines that could catch fire

Whirlpool adds three new models to recall list of machines that could catch fire Whirlpool has added three new models to its recall of washing machines that could catch fire.  The move will affect 5,000 additional households with Hotpoint and Indesit products, the appliances giant revealed.  Families who bought models numbered WMAQC641PUK, WMAQG741PUK and WMFG741GUK are being urged to pull the plug amid fears of faulty doors overheating.  . A spokesman said: “The advice remains the same – don’t use the machines.”  It comes after 42 Hotpoint and Indesit models were recalled in December. In June, Whirlpool had to recall dryers after fires.  In December, the company were slammed for telling half a million of us to unplug our washing machines over Christmas due to a fire risk.  Labour MP Rachel Reeves slammed that as a “wholly inadequate response”.  In a hard-hitting letter to the firm, she also insisted that it resolves the situation “as a matter of urgency”.  Her condemnation came as home insurers warned that using a faulty washer could void insurance cover.  Whirlpool recalled 519,000 Indesit and Hotpoint washers after 79 caught fire due to a flawed lock system.  That came months after it recalled 500,000 potentially dangerous dryers.
