"If a person loses his hands or legs, he can still manage. But if he loses his vision then everything is lost," believes 42-year old Bajrang Singh from Mumbai. An ill-fated incident in the chemical factory where he worked robbed him of his vision. One day, while he was carrying a box of raw chemical, little did he realize that it was leaking and the chemical spilt on his face. As he was not wearing any protective gear he sustained severe burn injuries in his eyes. The fear that he had lost his vision far surpassed the pain that he had to put up with. TKCI faculty Dr Sayan Basu, an expert at dealing with chemical burn injuries, successfully operated him and performed a combination of stem cell therapy and corneal transplant surgery. For Bajrang, getting back his vision has been no less than a rebirth. A father of three daughters, he is extremely relieved that he will again be able to support his family.
