Do keep a lookout for their siren and blinkers at junctions & do give way to them even when the lights are in your flavour.

[Exemption of SCDF emergency vehicles from the Road Traffic Act]

In a life-threatening emergency, the quick arrival of our responders could mean the difference between life and death.

Since 1 December 2017, SCDF emergency ambulances have been exempted from Section 120(3) of the Road Traffic Act, allowing them to beat red lights and make U-turns at non-designated junctions when responding to emergencies.

From tomorrow onwards, this exemption will be extended to our fire engines, red rhinos and fire-medical vehicles when responding to fire, rescue and medical emergencies. This will be rolled out in phases in the coming months.

The safety of other road users is our priority too. Our drivers must slow down and come to a complete stop at a traffic junction, and only move off when it is safe to do so. The vehicles’ siren and blinker lights will also be switched-on to alert other road users of their presence.
