My name is Raphael Malikian and I started this crowdfunding campaign to help raise money to create a rural health clinic called Happy Family Medicine in Palmdale, CA, a medically underserved area of Los Angeles County but is technically in the Desert - a beautiful community called Antelope Valley but as with any desert there are literal and also social barriers to getting good healthcare.
Our community has inherited the outdated, old-world attitude with a lot of stigma that mental disease is just “crazy,” thankfully times are changing but we have a lot of progress to make.... especially when popular buzz terms like “mental health” are confusingly used in media to describe mental illness ....
This can make it difficult for many of my clients and fellow community members to be assessed by Psychiatry, but that’s not an excuse.
At my office we will be providing a revolutionary therapy to treat anxiety, depression and PTSD which can almost instantly reverse these diseases and get people back to where they need to be mentally and spiritually to LIVE THEIR BEST LIFE.
Happy Family Medicine will provide medical care to people of all ages to the surrounding community in the Los Angeles County area of Palmdale and Sun Village which is devastatingly a medically underserved area. Happy Family Medicine will hope to one day be able to care for patients regardless of their insurance, we believe that more affordable better quality care can be provided to our clients by having a direct payment model, in addition to community barter/exchange programs where individuals who may have financial barriers to healthcare can support through other means such as volunteering services or time at the health center. There will be a training center at the health center which can be a multi-purpose area where community classes can be ran from, in addition to exercise classes, and support groups, in addition to mental health services, alcoholics anonymous and narcotics anonymous. The vision is to run a lean, minimalist medical clinic which will be sustainable for the patients and community we will serve.
There is an urgent need for good health care in our area, with medical expenses being seemingly higher than ever our community members are delaying going to the doctors for routine care and management of chronic diseases, and as a consequence getting more ill, and needing to make costly emergency room visits, be hospitalised or even worse. The area of Palmdale is beautiful, we are proud to call it our home and backyard, but geographically faces many boundaries to accessing healthcare for our community: the long distances between people and community resources, the nature of a desert environment having such hot temeperatures, and the long distance from a major city and lack of public transportation. It's difficult to attract Doctors and Nurses from outside this area to want to stay here to work and live and grow to support the community
Happy Family Medicine will also serve as a platform for our community members to gain skills working in a Medical Office, skills which can further help our population grow. Teaching is a passion, and we hope to be able to help train the future generations of medical assistants, nurses, physicians assistants and doctors to better serve their own communities too.
Funding will contribute to, but not limited to:
Consulting experts regarding business structure, creating a non-profit or Corporation or other structure
Health Center Marketing and generating interest
Locating, Securing, and preparing a facility/space to operate from, ideally from a pre-existing Turnkey community center or medical office which we can more easily start working from
Medical office equipment such as examination tables, medical equipment, office furniture, telephones, examination lights, practice management software, electronic health record systems
Community transport to/from Happy Family Medicine office visits
Medical malpractice, salaries and associated overheads for staff, business liability insurances,
