A wonderful gem from 1979 and the pointy end of disco's reign over the culture. American group Dynasty scored a hit in Britain with this funky and rocky genre morphing treasure, 'I Don't Want To Be A Freak (But I Can't Help Myself). Reaching #20 near the end of '79, here's another little heard disco hit from the last year of that halcyon decade. Chic's Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards have a lot of wonderful things to answer for in the decades since their dominance. Although they had nothing to do with this track, there's elements of the best of Chic in it. The new wave pop and dance movements that would emerge early on in the 1980's can also be heard here; especially electro pop and synth heavy music. How far did disco mature between George MaCrae's 'Rock Your Baby' and Lipps Inc's 'Funky Town; in less than 6 years?
