Last night British MPs backed Boris Johnson’s early election bill by 438-20.
During the announcement of the results, Deputy Speaker Dame Eleanor Laing passed over to John Bercow as a last-minute amendment was raised by Chris Leslie.
The Deputy Speaker said: “I now have his amendment before me and I am reading his amendment.

Dame Laing then paused and bent down to read the amendment, before continuing: “Amendments are not suitable for discussion at this time. So, the question is that the Bill now be read a third time.
