Is it hard to visualise that the particles oscillate right angle to wave travel? Is it difficult to visualise which two particles are in phase (move with the same VELOCITY)?
This wave machine is useful for one to see the properties of a transverse wave.
The two red "wave particles" are in phase.
The idea shows that the wave travels from left to right (my hand is causing the oscillation) however the particles are oscillating up and down (right angle to wave travel).
